Gran Turismo 5

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMGEuropean gamers have been given the chance to prolong the Yuletide spirit with the ‘Signature Edition Challenge’ for Playstation 3 that went live on Monday- the chance to win a real Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG in Gran Turismo 5.
Sadly enough, participation is open only to enthusiasts across Europe; the rest of us will have to bide our time. Interested gamers need to redeem the voucher code on their Signature Edition game pack via the Playstation store on gran-turismo.com and register their details. The winner of the event gets the keys to a brand-new SLS AMG worth a hefty €180,000.
The gamers begin the challenge in the B-Spec mode of the game, where they will get to test out their efficacy as a team director for AI drivers in a series of five, 5-lap races held on different circuits till 23:59 GMT on January 31, 2011. As February dawns, the top 15 regional winners from 22 countries will proceed to the next stage as per the fastest total times recorded for each region- the Mercedes-Benz Driving Event.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG by FAB Design

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG by FAB Design

FAB Design has finally released some shots of their take on the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. The latest sports car from the German manufacturer has reached a ‘proper’ upgrade.

The tuner changed the front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper and diffuser. They have added a hood scoop, rear spoiler, 20 inch rims, lower suspension using special springs and 40hp of additional performance. The total horsepower is now 611hp. The sprint from 0-100km/h has increased with only 0.1 second to 3.7 seconds.

Any thoughts on the new design of this German sports car?

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG racer

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
Mercedes-Benz is showing off its new SLS AMG GT3. Basically, they took the hottest car and made it hotter for the racetrack.

It's the racing version of the SLS AMG, and it should start showing up on the circuits next year.

The GT3 race car has a new front skirt with enlarged air intakes. The hood features a central opening for the extraction of heat from the engine and there are side openings in the front fenders. The side and rear windows are made of polycarbonate instead of glass to reduce weight. The windshield might even get the same treatment. There's a carbon fiber spoiler on the rear.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Prototype

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing” is one of the coolest sports cars of all time. So named because of its unique, roof-hinged doors, the Gullwing was the Enzo of its era: stupendously fast, outrageously expensive, and styled to make an entrance. Clark Gable owned one; Andy Warhol painted one; Ava Gardner crashed one. No Mercedes sports car since, not even the Mercedes-McLaren SLR, has come close to matching the Gullwing’s iconic appeal.

The SLR was a bastard-child of a supercar that neither McLaren nor Mercedes-Benz engineers truly felt was their own. McLaren’s Gordon Murray, designer of championship-winning Brabham and McLaren grand prix racers, driving force behind the McLaren F1 supercar, thought the SLR overweight and overwrought; the antithesis of his personal automotive design philosophy. For their part, the Mercedes-Benz engineers were uneasy with McLaren’s free-wheeling, fast-moving development culture, and skeptical of its methods. The culture-clash car that resulted was blindingly fast and supremely robust, but oddly styled and strangely uninvolving to drive.
